I've been enjoying your blog for quite some time, and can't remember if I've ever commented before. Knowing about your campaign against mountain top removal mining, I immediately thought of you when I saw this article "Death of a Mountain" http://www.wesjones.com/death.htm Perhaps you have already seen it - very graphic! Carry on your good work!

fred....i will post about this in a couple of days, for my readers, too. i sent a letter directly to the office of surface mining and reclamation, but they just sent me a generic reply and told me to leave a comment on this comment page. but like you said, it's nearly impossible to get to that page.

i'll go over this evening and post my own comment there, as i haven't yet. and i'll get hubby to, also.

Thanks, Fred. My letter will go off today. When we built our sunporch onto our existing deck, we reaped the unexpected benefit of heating our small house nearly all winter long using the sunporch's solar panels. If our gov't would provide a tax write-off to homeowners/companies building solar units (as they did at one time) we would all benefit.

This is an important and real issue among those of us living in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Thank you Fred for taking the time to help us save them!
