The Shapes That Winter Takes

Image copyright Fred First

Fluted. Filigreed. Lacey. Cancellous. Clear as crystal glass, green as a glacier. Granular and rough over here at the top of this rocky ledge; and just there in the shadow of the bluff, a smooth, flat sheet that protects itself by reflecting the pale pastel light of a weak winter sun. Ice buttons and balls, goblets and goblins that decorate the drab grasses at creek's edge with bright colorless ornaments. Air bubbles under glass move rodent-like downstream in a warren of liquid and crystal.

Fred, you photography is always inspiring. You have the knack of finding the most intresting perspective or shape or nuance of light.
The next chapter, I'm sure, will improve on the last. You touch on subjects to which in some way we all can relate.
Thanks for being a voice from Floyd ever since we first got caught at the counties only traffic light some four years ago.

Fred,

After my initial visits to read through your various blogs and to enjoy your photos, I have found myself coming back to them time and time again. I am drawn to the sheer joy and interest you take in everything you see and to your engaging, entertaining and delightful dialogue with your unseen audience. As a keen amateur photographer and a frustrated wanna-be writer, I admire (and envy!) your fluency and ease with both words and images. I live across the other side of the world in a large, crowded, noisy, chaotic city and your blogs have often eased my frayed nerves and reminded me that sometimes the simplest things can be beautiful. I know you have a truckload of fans and you are very busy, but I wanted to at least let you know just how far across the world your thoughts have reached.

With best regards and sincere appreciation,

Kim
