Home for Fragments Image Gallery

In less than a month, I'll possibly be looking for another place to store (and from which, perhaps to sell) my images. They've been here for over a year, and before I decide to recommit for another, I want to look at my options.

What I'd appreciate now is any suggestions on places you either store images, or view them, or successfully find and purchase or sell pictures on the net. Display properties for blogging purposes is also important. I'd like to be able to link to somewhat larger images (at least 800 pixels on the largest dimension) especially as many of my images are landscapes; landscapes lose a lot with the necessary reduction for blog post and need larger display size available by link to show their best.

So, if you have ideas, I'm needing to decide soon.

I used to use imageevent.com for my photos. They have several different sizes in which to view photos, the albums you create can be password protected and the price was reasonable. Will it fit your needs? I'm not sure, but you might have a look.

FlickR is pretty cool for photo sharing, but I don't think that they have a storefront feature.

If you don't have your heart set on that, give them a look:

For integrating phots with your blog - nothing beats Flickr. However, you can't sell images from there...

Based on the fact that you have your own domain, you must be using a web host or have your own server. Personally, I have about 30 domains on a server with ServInt.net (a virtual private server) and they have been great. With ServInt, or with the company you are hosting with now, you should be able to install an image foto gallery program. I use one called "Gallery" (pretty simple name!), and it works great. In combination with that, set up an OSCommerce shopping cart and use a digital download method for selling the photos. It would be pretty trivial to set this all up, and I would be happy to assist you with that, if you needed it. I have 16 or 17 different e-stores using OSCommerce and it is a great (and free) solution!

Good luck!

Can't help you- I don't try to sell my images online - I sold several pictures to my hospital - they are hanging in my new ER treatment rooms & from these I have sold several to employees...........I only sell locally to friends & hospital associates...........I don't want it to become a burden to me at this point.........

Fred,
A friend of mine in Melbourne has pictures for sale through:

www.f8fineart.com

"Go to F8 Artists where you will find my name, then MORE for a view of my pics." Well, that is HIS name and HIS pictures. Not sure how he got with them, but they seem to act like a virtual online art gallery (and some of your photos are in that category I think) with people able to buy various prints through them of the work being shown. Steve.

(His nmae is Ray Copely, by the way, and he has some great, classic images up there that were taken back in the 1960s).

Steve.

If I might be so bold as to ask, what type of camera do you use?

Bob makes a good comment about asking your webhosting service about image gallery possibilities. Since I'm your webhost, all you had to do was ask. Sigh.

Yes, I have friends who love Flickr.

I'd think if you were able to get a little customized script or two written, you could provide online ordering of prints. People could pay via Paypal, and you could frame up the print and ship it off. The added convenience would increase sales.
