Papillonaceous Predator on the Prowl

image copyright Fred First

Butterflies. Tsuga is convinced they are here for his sport and entertainment. And, as you may know, it is their shadows that he is almost always more interested in, since learning that the actual creature does not, after all, taste like butter, as advertised.

But the swallowtails on the coreopsis were just flaunting it yesterday, daring him to try to catch them. He dared. He dove. He missed, but not by much. (See intended victim in evasive maneuver just above the Jaberwock's cruel jaws.)

Advertising is not all it is cracked up to be, huh Tsuga?

Our pooch is partial to the monarchs, but will accept swallowtails, or even bees, in a pinch.

Fred, I've been meaning to ask you this: You always have on your pictures "image copyright" and your name. Do you just type this in on your own, or have you actually gone ahead and officially purchased a copyright that works for all your pictures?

The reason I'm asking is I'm wondering if we should do this also. Now..we don't post pictures at all of your quality...but sometimes there just might be one out of the blue that someone out there in internet-land could snatch up and copy to make money on.

Just wondering about it. Any insight you could give? THANKS!

this is really great Fred. I love your pet pix, they are a refreshing tonic. Ms. Deb--as I understand the law, nobody has the right to steal a picture you have posted to the Internet, regardless of whether you have displayed it with a copyright mark. some people will do it anyway, which is uncool but many folks just don't know that there is anything wrong with right-clicking & saving someone else's picture for personal use. theft for profit is another thing--how vigilant you want to be about preventing it is up to you. don't let a few rogues spoil the fun of sharing your artwork with others.

I enjoy these tsuga shots, thanks

Suzy, thanks for your reply and interest!

Love the Tsuga pictures!! My butterfly garden is just now beginning to bloom - so far, no butterflies...........now that July is here & the heat of the summer is upon us, hopefully I will begin to get the swallowtails - the zinnias & fennel are ready!!............The milkweed isn't yet ready to bloom, so the monarchs won't be comng as yet..........The camera is ready & waiting!!
