And the Winner Is...
Well, it hasn't won anything. Yet. But it will soon be tossed into the mix with over 100 other images. And you played no small part in helping me decide which image to send--which I will do, later today or first thing tomorrow--provided I come up with the final name for the image.
It was originally titled "* Autumn Morning." Maybe that's as good a title as any. But before I send it along, I've been jotting down alternatives. Any other thoughts? It probably doesn't matter, but for me, the name of something colors my perception of it--gives my eye something to seek out, a place for my mind to settle, guided by the name the painter, sculptor, or author gave to his or her work. So. Add names to the list if you'd care to. I'll be shipping this 4 x 6 image off soon.
* I tweaked the final image some vs the gallery version--increased brightness a nudge on the barn, brightened the nearest haybales and straw on the ground with a bit more color. The original was somewhat too somber-dark, I thought.
Here are alternative names conjured so far. Like any of them better than Autumn Morning? I considered Misty Dawn, but was afraid one of the judges, being from the south and all, might have a daughter by that name.
- Blue Ridge Morning
- Blue Ridge Harvest
- Autumn Dawn
- Autumn Harvest
- Harvest Morning
- Autumn Valley Fog
- Harvest Home
- Harvest Morning
- Virginia Morning
- Peace in the Valley
- Gathering The Harvest
- Morning Has Broken

When I showed my 12 year old son your pictures set to music, he picked this one as the best. He liked the early morning fog, as it reminded him of our mornings at Mountain Lake in Giles.
Since this contest is in Spring, I wouldn't reference the season. I like Blue Ridge & Virginia Morning, Morning Has Broken and Peace in the Valley.

I like Blue Ridge Harvest or Virginia Morning.
Wise decision to eliminate "Misty Dawn". It might also sound too much like an exotic dancer!

The word "harvest" should be in the title. Like you say, it will help the viewer notice the hay bales in the foggy background. Autumn harvest is sorta redundant, so I would think "harvest morning" or "harvest dawn" would be best.

peace in the valley sounds so relaxing. that one is your best bet!

That was one of my favorites. "Virginia Autumn Morning" maybe? Or to be more long-winded, "Autumn Morning in Virginia"...?
Hope you win. But if you've ever entered photo contests before... well you know how judges can be. Sometimes they have a good eye and will really judge the photos. Sometimes they just think, "Oh, pumpkins, I like pumpkins..." :)

Actually, no, I haven't entered a photo contest before. But I fully well know a winning photo is just as likely to reflect the judges digestive processes, phobias or fetishes as much as photographic merits. It's a fickle world out there.

I still like Autumn Morning, but I also liked Autumn Fog.........I, like you, have never entered a photo contest. My photos have been exhibited at my local camera shop - they have a classroom where they exhibit their customers photos throughout the year & I exhibit on occasion..........I will be presenting a slide show of my photos from the Galapagos Islands at my local Wild Bird Center (where I buy my bird seed) in April........I presented a Galapagos slideshow at work a few weeks ago & I had a wonderful feedback from fellow employees.......Have never made any $$ from these shows but I enjoy doing this......

I love Autumn Morning............I have been going back over the entries in the contest.........a few that I like are # 11, # 54, # 55, # 72, and # 111, however I think Autumn Morning could go up against all of them.............
