Spring of Genius

image copyright Fred First

The unnamed creek springs to light from darkness underground, from a dozen springs a mile south. Since its infancy before time, it has flailed north and south, forth and back between the ridges, swollen and angry, to carve our valley home from Appalachian stone. Today the little stream falls along peacefully enough, cold and clear as liquid glass, down mountains, carrying the smell of snow to a sandy beach on the coast.

Tonight the creek will freeze along the edges. In a month, we will hear a river embryo calling faintly from under ice. And we will walk on water. -- FBF

A lovely photo. We could walk on water already here in Oblivion if so inclined. The unusually cold winter has pushed genius aside, replaced it with simpler thoughts of warm porridge and warmer hearth. I ask little more from life presently other than the comfort of a good book, a steady lamp, and a cozy afghan. I wish you always: good friends and warm fuzzies.

Walking on water has become attainable?

This was beautiful ... from photo to last punctuation. Thanks for sharing the beauty. I love what your eyes see.

Just wonderin'...why don't you name the creek?

Surely there must a procedure or form that one lodges with an official or bureau.

Who better than one who is such a caring steward of the land? One day another thoughtful tenant of the valley would enjoy the water music on a fine day and wonder about the man who named it thusly.

A nice symmetry don't you think?
