Shine a Little Light
The very little town of Floyd gets some momentary attention from the DC area music lovers once again. This one is particularly interesting to me because, by way of Fragments, I met Julian Smith, the young writer who visited our town not long ago. He was kind enough to mention our piece of pie and cup of coffee, and now I know why I'm getting quite a few google searches for Fragments this morning. Much appreciated.
Here's the article (that also includes the rest of his trip to the Carter Fold). You'll have to quickly register for the Washington Post if you haven't already. Painless. Really.

Boy, Fred, you can't BUY that kind of attention. There's a reason for being in the right place at the right time. - Tom

Good piece. Seems the Post "rediscovers" Floyd and the Jamboree about every two years (which is good).

Thanks for posting that link, Fred. All I know of Floyd is what I've seen through your eyes, your words and pictures, and it's great to get a picture through someone else's perspective too. Cool!

You said that? What a guy. *G*
Great mention...although I can't imagine you gulping coffee...sipping reflectively or absentmindedly as you focus on something else, yes.

Fred,
I currently live in Alexandria and found you through the Post article. I grew up in Roanoke but never managed to make it out to see bluegrass at the Country Store in Floyd. In any case, I'm glad Julian mentioned your blog. I'll be visiting again in the future.
