Good images make themselves. I found this scarecrow at the edge of the folk school garden on Monday Morning (sans camera) and noted the time the sun should be partially blocked by the tree, flooding the background with light, leaving the foreground in shadow. I went back Tueday at the right time and grabbed the image.
I suppose the 'effect' you mention is the oval 'vignette'; in Photoshop, I use the eliptical marquee tool, cut out the image and past into a new window, flatten and save. I did use some 'soft light' (white foreground) to brighten the vegetation in the background but otherwise, no lighting enhancement. This, perhaps, more than you wanted to know. No extra charge. :-}
