Things Fall Apart

All is not well in DellVille. The last in this debacle is that it is looking like there are fatal flaws in this newly loaded and wonderfully stable Windows XP Professional I've been hearing so much about. The nice lady who was practicing her English while pretending to be technically supportive finally threw her hands up and said (in English words here, not as heard over the phone, so as to be intelligible) to just keep on mucking around and if it totally falls apart again we will have to wipe the hard drive I have been working on furiously for two solid days and start over again from scratch. Not a happy camper. So if (when?) I disappear for some time (actually I can go back to my limp-along if necessary) or seem unusually surly, you'll know why. Sigh.

Sorry that you're having problems! It doesn't sound good. I haven't had any problems with XP (which doesn't mean that's not what is causing your problems), but the last computer I purchased, I deliberately stayed away from Dell and Gateway and other top names. The reason was they tend to have proprietary architecture which screws with software and drivers.

Apparently it is so bad that my cable provider won't even attempt to support problems for users of the two above mentioned companies.

My XP runs on an HP Pavilion 751n. I get annoyed at all the little pop-ups that inveigh me to "try" numerous software trial packs that are in the load, and such; but, no real problems. It's more stable than the 98 that I had been running (and more user friendly). Bummer that you got a bad load! Will it help if we hold a synchronized gnashing of teeth for you?
