A Peony By Any Other Name

They are blooming now outside our kitchen window. Seems they are kitchen-window sorts of plants, here in the country.

Are they PEE onnies, or pe OHH nies? The camp is divided. You must chose one from your local vernacular. I don't have any money riding on either pronunciation but was curious about regionalisms that might exist.

PEE-onies. I have them in the front and try and get the buds before they bloom because the plants are huge and it's not a pretty site...can't find a holder big enough any more....this year, I pinched and got twice as many. I'm waiting with trepidation for the 39487 lbs of peony petals.

Sight, not site! I've been on line too long....

PEE ohnies

Wish we could grow 'em ...winter's not cold enough.

Another word that seems to provide no clue as to it's pronounication:

Pecan

PEE can

peh KAN

PEEK in
